Decker always thought of herself as a singer from the country genre however, the album's promotion and production was geared towards a more pop-oriented audience. Decker struggled to get more control over the music she put out after her prior singles weren't well received. Decker's second album, announced as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved following Mercury was disappointed by the performance of three of Decker's singles on the country charts.
